WELCOME DESIGNERS & GRADUATES!

By Steph Finnan Posted on April 1, 2020April 15, 2020 393
Welcome Fashion Designers Graduates

A warm welcome to you from Stephanie Finnan, Founder of Fashion Careers Counsel. Whether you’re a fashion graduate searching for your first design job, a Design Assistant looking to step up in your career, a Designer with several years of experience, or a Head Designer or Design/Creative Director – we are here to support, mentor and help you find a job in fashion design.

If you have over 10 years of experience, you may recall that I already ran a careers advice company for several years from 2009-2012, called The Fashion Careers Clinic – if so, a big HELLO and welcome back. I’ve been following some of you on Linkedin, and have been thrilled to watch your careers develop and grow over the years!

At Fashion Careers Counsel, we’ve been working in careers consultancy, head-hunting/ recruitment, and education since 2000.

We aim to provide you with honest, unbiased advice, insider info, and a ‘hand to hold’, based on nearly 20 years of knowledge working with designers, creatives and global brands.  My experience in head-hunting and recruitment has always been specialised in design and creative, which means I know what employers are looking for from design talent and most importantly, what makes candidates stand out when job searching.

OUR SERVICES & FREE INFORMATION FOR YOU

We’ve tried to keep prices as low as possible for one to one advice and personalised CV and portfolio reviews, as we know times are tough right now. As we’d like as many people as possible to benefit from our advice, the FCC site also includes huge amounts of FREE content. Read our Interviews and Advice sections for regular insights from industry insiders, and ‘how to’ practical guides on improving your job search. We’ll be updating these sections often, so remember to check in for new articles each week.

If you have a general question about working in fashion design, or job hunting, please email us at q&a@fashioncareerscounsel.com, and we’ll do our best to answer your query on the site.

JOB SEARCHING DURING COVID-19

The next few months will, unsurprisingly, be dominated by the Covid-19 crisis, and the fashion industry will clearly be rocked by the fall-out from this.

Some of you may have directly been affected by redundancy or being put on furlough, whilst many of those who had been job searching before all of this began have had offers retracted or roles put on hold.

Searching for a new job in fashion design will be more challenging than before, that’s for sure, but not impossible.  There are brands who are still recruiting – even in badly-hit Milan – and who are making plans for the future. It’s already clear that fashion brands will need to shift focus and adapt to survive, post Covid-19, and this could mean a change in structure, different staffing needs, and new product offerings, resulting in some companies actually recruiting once they’re through the other side of this crisis.

It’s important to be prepared for this, so we’ll be creating several ‘How To’ guides soon, on how best to improve your CV and profile, ready to make job applications.
